COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.
The champion rifle shooting commenced in Dunedin on Wednesday last. The weather was very unfavorable, with rain and sleet. The following are the results so far as we are able to gather :— Judging Distance Prize — Hazard, (Thames) 18; Wilson (Otago), 18 ; Cameron (Constabulary), 18. First Set of Prizes — Hazard (Thames), 44 ; Wilson (Otago), 44 ; Moore (Nelson), 42. On Thursday the weather was fine, but only one event came off at 400, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each range : — • Ist Prize, silver medal and £40 — Tressider (Dunedin), 24, 23, 15—62. 2nd Prize, silver medal and £30 — Balhara (Wellington), 20, 22, 19—61. 3rd Prize, £20^-Gully (Nelson), 21, 23, 17—61. A telegram in the Evening Post of Saturday says : — Goldie, of Port Chalmers, (Champion), 180; Tressider, Dunedin No. 1, (2) 177; Buchanan, West Taieri, (3), 170. Fourth Set of Prizes — Hazard, 26 ; Cameron, 25 ; Renouf (Napier), 25. Fifth Set of Prizes — Buchanan (West Taieri), 52 ; Goldie (Port Chalmers), 49; Smith (Westland), 48. Cadets — Heisler (Canterbury), 25 ; Reid (Dunedin), 24 ; Smith (Dunedin), 23 j Smith (Canterbury), disqualified.
