I MaULBO ROUGH SUPERIN TENDENCY. — | We understand that the Hon. A. P. Seymour has heca elected Superintendent of Marl borough. I Pioneer Company. — We are requested to state that the time for sending in tenders for sinking shafts in the loic belonging to this company, expires on Thursday uext, 31st mst. Bankruptcy. — The Gazette, of this morning, contains a notification to the effect that Messrs. Monro Brothers, of Marlborough, sheepfarmers, have filed a declaration of insolvency. Inquest. — An inquest, was held yesterday before Dr. Squires, the coroner, on the boiiy of George Gadson, who died on Sunday iv the Lunatic Asylum, when a verdict was returned to the effect that ' deceased died from natural causes. English Mail. — The Oineo, with the ! English mail on board, arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday morning, but as she does not call at Nelson this trip, it is doubtful when we shall receive our letters. The outgoing mail via San Francisco closes to-morrow afternoon for despatch per Airedale. Steamer Lady Barkly. — We observe th;»t this favorite little steamer is laid ou for a special trip to Motueka, leaving Nelson on Thursday morning, and returning the uext morning; thus giving intending visitors an opportunity of beinsr present at the Odd-Fellows' Anniversary Fete. Maitai Quartz. — A small two stamper battery, driven by the Government engine, was at work the greater part of yesterday, crushing a quantity of stone that had been brought down from the Maitai reef. We have ma le numerous enquiries as to the results, but have not yet heard of any large yield of gold being obtained. The Glasselowers gave their final entertaiument last night, when the room was unpleasantly crowded, aud the promise that all present should receive a " parting gift" couid not be fulfilled at the time. Mr. Woodroffe, however, has promised that on Thursday next these gifts will be ready for all ticket holders. The public, and Mr. and Mrs. Woodroffe and Mr. Peachrnau, the agent, must be mutually satisfied with the results of these entertainments in Nelson. Accident. — An accident occurred yesterday morning to one of the prisoners named James Fielding, one of the Alphiugton's men, who was recently committed for trial for stabbiug a passenger by that vessel. It appears that he was at work with the other prisoners at the entrance to Washington Valley, when he incautiously went beneath where two of the men were at work on the hill side dislodging a mass of earth which fell on him before he had time to get out of the way. He was at once conveyed to the gaol, but ou examination it was found that he had sustained no injury beyond a few severe bruises.
