Tiie Glassblowers drew another capital bouso hist night, aud to-day the} 1 give an afternoon as well as an evening entertainmeut, We strongly recommend all who have not witnessed this interesting exhibition to do so wilhout delay. Government Wharf. — The 'lease of the Government wharf for twelve months was sold by auction at the Land Office this morning. The upset price was £500, and after some spirited bidding it was knocked down to Mr. Gibbous for £660 v being an increase of £120 on the last year's price. Oddfellows. — At a summoned meeting of the Loyal Howard Lodge 1.0.0.F., M.U., held at the Oddfellows' Hail last Wednesday evening, Mr. Acton Adams was unanimously elected a Trustee of the Lodge, and a certificate to that effect, signed by the officers of the Lodge, has been forwarded to the Registrar, Wellington, according to the provisions of the Friendly Societies Act, 1867. Cape Farewell Ligiitiiouse. — The whole of the works connected with th'_erection of this lighthouse are now completed, and the workmen employed upon it arrived in Kelson by the L-.dy Barkly | on Thursday last. The fixing of the lighting apparatus is now being proceeded with, under the superintendence of Mr. Felix Wakefield. The surplus plant used in the erection was this morning submitted for sale by public auction by Mr. Mabin at the Government Wharf. The Wangapeka. — The news received yesterday from Waugapeka is certainly most cheering, not only to shareholders iu the Culliford Company, but to the public at large, and in fact we are inclined to look upon that portion of It which refers to gold being found in a distant part of the reef, namely, the No. 2 South claim, as being even more satisfactory than the discovery of the rich leader in Culliford's, showing as it does that the existence of the precious metal is not confined to one particular spot. The "great want that is, and will be for some time, felt, is the absence of the necessary capital for reef working, and any steps that may be taken having a tendency to encourage the introduction of it will be hailed with delight by all parties concerned. For this reason we hope that the directors of the Culliford company will lose no time in getting a fair quantity of stone from the reef for the ourpose of having it tested, as, should it prove as rich as is hoped and expected, it will attract the attention of foreign capitalists, and money, the great motive power at present so much wanted, will be forthcoming, at all events in sufficient quantity to give a thorough trial to the gphlfield to which we are so anxiously looking to remove the depression and stagnancy from which all classes of the community are suffering.
