LATEST FROM THE WAIKATO.
CFrom the correspondent of the Morning Advertiser) Hamilton March 2. You will doubtless by this time have heard all kinds of conflicting rumors coucerning the groat Native Meeting, tho attitude of the king and his party, and the visit of the Governor. The truth is this, the great Native meeting will result iv smoke, there will be no alteration, no matter what promises are made, in the disposition of the King party towards us, on the contrary, they now are more in Te Kooti's favor than ever. His escape from our troops has been magnified into victory, and the Maoris have been kept well informed with regard to the discontent of the Government at their escape having beeu permitted. As for the visit of the Governor that will not effect any good. Miners' Deputation to Ohinemuri. — The deputation appointed by a meeting of miners started for Ohinemuri on Tuesday last, and found upou arriving there that the natives had received news of their coming, and the object they had in view, and some of those who were adverse to their mission, actuated by persons interested in keeping the land locked up, were stationed to intercept their getiing |to Waihi, the settlement of the chief Kepn, one of those most anxious to throw I open the lands. After waiting for some time, they managed to elude the watchers, and got a, p&rt of the 30 miles lying between Ohinemuri and Waihi the first .night. Next day they got to Kepa's place, who treated them very kiudly, and through the interpretation of Mr. Duncan, who accompanied them, they had a long interview with the chief. Ho gave them a letter, in which he states his williuguess to sell the laud, and his having offered it to the Government. He would like the miners to buy the land through the Government, so that he would be treated fairly iv the matter. He says the land is no use to him as it is, and that the Government have uot acted fairly with him in not buying it. The deputation will give an account of their mission to a public meeting on Saturday.
