William Taylor, a lad about 12 years of age, was charged by Robert Jeffrey Durrant with setting fire to the scrub on the Wakapuaka hills, withiu the limits of the town, thereby doing damage to the amount of £9. , , . The act of firing the scrub was admitted, and the destruction of two chains of post and rail, and quick fencing having been proved, His Worship stated that as this was the first time an information had been laid under this ordinance, he should inflict the lowest penalty, at the same time giving a caution that for the future tho full penalty of 40;*. would be enforced.
