[Before J. Sharp, Esq , U.M., W. W. Wells, Esq., J.P.] This Day. Cattle Trespass. W. Wright, W. Taylor, and W. Jones, charged with a breach of the Cattle Trespass Ordiuance were each fined ss. and } costs. I Vagrancy. \ Hans Petersen was charged with wandering abroad without lawful means of support. Prisoner, who appeared to be of unsound mind, was sentenced to one months* imprisonment. Setting Fire to Scrub within Town Boundaries. William Taylor, a lad about 12 years of age, was charged by Robert Jeffrey Durrant with setting fire to the scrub on the Wakapuaka hills, withiu the limits of the town, thereby doing damage to the amount of £9. , , . The act of firing the scrub was admitted, and the destruction of two chains of post and rail, and quick fencing having been proved, His Worship stated that as this was the first time an information had been laid under this ordinance, he should inflict the lowest penalty, at the same time giving a caution that for the future tho full penalty of 40;*. would be enforced. Defendant was fip.ed 55., and costs, £l 2s. 6d., and judgnent given for £6 3s. damages, or iv default of payment, two months' imprisonment. H. D. Jackson v. Hawkins. Action to recover £4 103. for rent of paddock for 15 weeks at Gs. per week. Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed, and costs, 9s.
