Fjriday, February 25. Present : Messrs. R. Buru (chairman), J. Percy, J. P. Black, and J. Webb. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and confirmed. HARPER-STREET. Tenders for the formation of Harperstreet were opener], and that of Boyle for £12 was accepted. HALIFAX-STREET. In the matter of the proposed works in Halifax -street, Mr. Webb stated that his Honor the Superintendent had informed him that the Government was not in a position to pa)' the £300 voted by the Council for that purpose. The project was therefore abandoned for the present. HARDY-STREET NUISANCE. The Hardy-street nuisance was then brought before the Eoard. Mr, Percy proposed the following resolutions, which were adopted : — 1. "That in the opinion of the Board it is absolute necessary that the system of sewerage in the City of Nelson should be extended, and that a main sewer should be made in "Waimeaetreet, with branch sewers in Lower Bridgestreet, Hardy-street, and Nile-street West, respectively. 2. " That the Surveyor be instructed to prepare an approximate estimate of the cost of making such sewer?, with the view of having the Nelson Improvement Act Amendment Act further amended, so ns to enable the Board (with t'ne consent of the ratepayers in Waimea-street, Bridge- street. Hardy-street, and Nile-street west), to raise a sufficient sum of money by debentures for defraying the cost 'of the same." MAITAI QUARTZ REEF. A letter from Mr. Drew, as Chairman of a meeting called for the purpose of testing quartz reefs in the Maitai, was received, applying for leave % 'to cut away the face of the bank or cliff for two chains from the bridge in Nile-street cast, making it perpendicular nearly to the present pathway, to widen the path from its opposite side, and then to make a drive in the most favorable position through the bank into the land in possession of Mr. W. Adams." This application required no action on the part of the Board, as another letter frera Mr. Drew stated that Mr. Adams Lad refuser] to allow the drive to be made into his land. HACKNEY CARRIAGE STAND. The recommendation of the sub-com-mittee on tho Hackney Carriage Stands was embodied in the following resolution by Mr. Percy, which was carried : — "That the following shall be an additional stand for Hackney Carriages plying for hire :— The centre pnrt of Trafalgnr-street North, commencing 30 feet from Hardy-street, and ending 60 feet from Trafalgar Square." INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES. Mr. Webb moved the following resolution, which, was agreed to : — " That this "Board considers any infraction of the bye-laws of this Boar 3to be a nuisance, and the Inspector of Nuisances is hereby empowered to enforce the observance of the bye-laws of the Board." SUNDRIES. Permission was given to Mr. Fell to erect a projecting window-blind at his office. The Surveyor reported that Hampdenstreet had been cleared of gorse, in compliance with a request from Mr. Burnett. Several accounts were passed, and the Board separated.
