c> Friday, January 14. Present : All the members but Mr. Percy. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. The Finance Committee reported that they had examined the books for the past month and found them correct. The Public Works Committee ordered the sea wall from the Saltwater bridge to the limekiln to be repaired. Mr. Ilarley's offer of a horse and cart was' accepted. , . Mr. Goldsmid applied for leave to erect a booth in Milton-street on Ist February. Application refused, and resolved, that for the future no booths be allowed to be erected in the streets. A letter was received from the Provincial Secretary stating that £250, the balance of the vote for the Haven and Waimea Roads had been placed in the Bank to the credit of the Board. The following letter from the cabmen of Nelson was then read ; — Nelson, Jan. 13, 1870. To tue Chairman and Members of the Board of Works. Gentlemen, At a meeting of Cab proprietors he'd on the 10th inst., at the Trafalgar Hotel, to take into consideration the infringement of the Licensed Hackney Carriage Act., the following were present, viz.: — Messrs. Newton, Spencer, Lockyer, Simpson, Burrel', Gay, Jones, Disher, Thomas and Son, Phillips, Bradcook, and Stockweli. It was proposed and seconded that a letter embodying the complaints against Potter's Bus he drawn np and forwarded to the Board for their consideration. Ist. T'<e standing of the Bus at tbe Masonic corner for various lengths of time say from 15 to 20 minutes to suit its convenience. 2nd. The pulling up at the end of Trafalgarstreet opposite the Cab-stand to hail passengerß to the detriment of the Cab proprietors. 3i*d. The injury done to the cabmen by drawing up at the wharf and in front of the Cubs on the arrival of steamers, as also making its usual stand in front of the Custom-house Hotel, contrary to both ao', and by-laws. We therefore consider that neither the Hackney Carriage Act or the Bv-laws of the Board admit of any special advantages to a bus. Therefore pray that your Board will at once take steps to prevent not only such infringements of the act, but such large injustice to the whole body of cabmen. The following resolution was then' carried, That on the complainants lodging a formal information with the Inspector, tbe Board would authorise him to prosecute.
