0 I Before J. Sharp, Esq, R.M., This Day. Hans Petersen, charged with vagrancy, was discharged with a warning. Charles Dwyer v. Alfred Edwards. Claim for £2, amount of reward offered for recovery of two steers. Plaintiff stated that ahout three years ago defendant lost two spotted steers, and offered bim £1 a head for information that would lead to their recovery. He found them, and left word to that effect at defendant's house, at the same time stating that he would meet him next day and show him where they were. Defendant did not go to the place appointed, but as he (plaintiff) subsequently found, had gone and fetched them himself. He had asked for the money before the issue of the summons, but had never sent in particulars of his claim. Dwyer, father of the plaintiff, stated that defendant had gone to his house some three years ago and offered him £1 per head for information that would lead to the recovery of the steers. A. Edwards stated that in 1864 he had lost two spotted steers, and had advertised them (advertisement put in).; They had been brought to him by Newport, to whom he had paid the reward. He bad never offered a reward for any other cattle. His Worship said that it was a singular thing that after so long a lapse of time this case had now been brought forward. He had no doubt that the animals referred J lo were those which the defendant stated j he had lost in 1864, and if transactions of J this kind after so long a period had elapsed, were allowed, there would be -no | end to them, and persons would be constantly taken by surprise by such claims being made upon them. He was not disposed to allow the present claim, and should dismiss the case with costs, 17s. Ann Curtis was charged with haviDg been guilty of using profane, indecent, and obscene language in the public streets. Defendant did not appear, and, the service of the summons having been proved, a warrant was issued for her apprehension.
