Some of these •views, particularly the Overland Route,' to India, are extremely good, and we can recommend them to the notice of our readers. .„,.. , . . .. , . . Burglary. — We understand that the house of the Rev. Mr. Appleton, in the Wood, was broken iu to last night and £14 and a ring was stolen therefrom. It appe'ars that the family went out between seven and eight leaving the house unoccupied, and on returning about ten o'clock they found it had been entered through the window, most of the things turned over, and the cashbox, by the side of which the key?, which had been left in another room, were lying, had been opened, and the money and ring taken. Nothing else wa9 missing from the house. Provincial Council. — The election of a member to represent the district of Amuri in the Provincial Council took place on Saturday last and resulted in the return of Mr Rutherford by a majority of one over his opponent Mr. Wigley. The Massacre Bay election which was to take place yesterday, and would, it was expected result in the unopposed return of Mr Gibbs closes, will complete the roll of Provincial Councillors. . Mr. Cotterell's Entertainment. — Mr. Cotterell gave another of his entertainments at the Odd-fellows' Hall last nisht, when owing to the boisterous state of the weather, there was but a thin attendance. We observe that he is to perform again on Thursday evening next, when we trust that the clerk ot the weather, if it is only out of respect to Lady Clara, and Miss Doodah, will make such arrangements as will permit the Nelson public to do homage to these charming ladies, without fear of getting soaked to the skin. A Splendid sample of gold, supposed to have come from the Upper Buller, was brought into Westport on Friday last. It weighed between 70 and 8.0 ozs., and contained several pieces of from four to six ozs. in weight. The gold was of a much rougher character than that usually found in the district, the whole of it being of a nuggetty description, and some of the nuggets of peculiarly contorted form, the apparent of pressure by boulders, and tear and wear by water.
