IMPORTANT RAILWAY NEWS.

We have great pleasure in publishing the pleasing intelligence that our long talked of railway is at last in a fair way of being taken up in earnest by English capitalists. As yet we have but a meagre telegram, and possibly we may have to wait another month before receiving full particulars, • but in the mean time; it is highly gratifying to find that, immediately upon the receipt of the Superintendent's letter announcing . the fact that the wishes of the promoters of the proposed, company had been acceded to, the matter ' was taken up and such propositions made to Mr. Morrison as, in the words of the telegram, " it is believed will be accepted*!' The fact that the Colonial Secretary deemed thetnatter .of sufficient importance to justify 1 his telegraphing the intelUgence^to.theiSuperin-. tendent immediately upon; the receipt of the ! English newsat Wellington, is one of some significance, as showing that although' we in Nelson 1 display an immense deal of apathy, and in some instances of determined hostility to the railway scheme, the General' Government 'are alive to the enprmous benefits it must,. confer, not only upon our province, but upon the colony at , large. On the news of the late discoveries of auriferous reefs initheWangapeka arriving in England, a fresh incentive will be supplied to the exertions of those who are interesting themselves in the matter and, •w,e\confess that ■we are now more hopeful than ever that the efforts of Mr. Curtis , on behalf of this much maligned railway scheme are about to be. crowned^with the success they . deserve.,, -, ,-. - ; -.\-.. •■• ■„"/, .'"'"]" •":.', "CZi : " The following Is' the Colonial Secretary's tele- ] gram:— ..,_ ,-,,, ;• .;. .r~v.
