The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, JUNE 5, 1859. LOSS OF THE SHIP BLUE JACKET, BY FIRE, OFF THE FALKLAND ISLANDS.
(By Electric Telegraph.) The Alhambra, which arrived at Hokitika this morning, reports the loss of the Blue Jacket by fire, off the Falkland Islands. The passengers were all saved, but two boats' crews were missing. She had a mixed, cargo of gold, wool, flax, tallow, aud cotton, which was valued at £130,000, the Bank of New Zealand having on board gold to the value of £63,000. The Blue Jacket sailed from Lyttleton for London in February last, and among her passengers were Mr. and Mrs. George Saxon, late of Ne'son.
