THE SUEZ MAIL.
The Suez Mail contains a few items of news which we will briefly summarise. The Viceroy of Egypt had offered the Sultan of Turkey the assistance of 15,000 men, but in the meantime the conference of European Powers held in Paris had concluded its sittings, and the result was that peace was secured between the belligerent countries. At the election of the Spanish Cortes, a large majority decided in favor of monarchical government. The Ottoman Minister at the Persian Court suddenly left Teheran for Constantinople, owing to a misunderstanding that had occurred on the question of the inward Persian frontier. ' Spain is negotiating with the United j States for the sale of Cuba. Sir H. Stacy, elected for Norwich, has been unseated for bribery. i Agrarian outrages still continue in Ireland. Mr Gladstone has promised reduction in the expenditure, to remedy the grievances of ratepayers, and secure free voting. In Church matters we find that, by an order of Privy Council, tfce use of altar lights in churches is prohibited, and that, in consequence of the judgment against Mackonochie, the Ritualists threaten secession from the Church of England. Dr. Harper, Bishop of Christchurch, has been officially appointed Bishop of New Zealand.
