LOOSE THOUGHTS BY A LOOSE THINKER.

To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — I think tbe position of Mr Stafford and his Nelson constituents is a queer One. I want to step into Mr Stafford's shoes and the constituents don't want that. I think they have forgotten who stood next on the poll. I think if my friends would but hold their tongues and not let the rest of the world see what lam driving at, I might slip in. I think the getting up the meeting and call ior Mr Stafford's resignation was a smart trick, but I don't wish to be seen In such a scaly affair. But still I think the berth would suit me to a T, and (not being particular to a dodge or two you know) being paid out of public money and no questions asked, I ' hould be nothing loath to assist in the expenditure. I think therefore that unless Mr Stafford shows a little more common sense and forbearance than his constituents — tbeir longstanding acquaintance with me nevertheless and notwithstanding — they will find before they have done woolgathering that I write mys-lf down member for Neison. And as Sir 1 think, and I think so will you, that the poor simple public, that pins its faith (worse luck) to my organ of public opinion, without troubling itself to inquire why I advocate this measure and denounce that man, will begin to wish it had made the exertion to do a little thinking for itself. You can take all I have said for what it is worth. Yours, &c, L. T. ammmmmmm*Km*moaam*mM»mammmmmmmmmm*wo—mmmm>*mjmmam»~—immm*~m* ■ ■ ■■ Mrt ■
