FREEZING WORKS FEDERATION.

Organisation in the freezing works industry is being steadily pushed along since tho formation of the Freezing Works and Allied Trade Fedoratioff. The Southland Freezing Works Union reports that it intends to extend its operations so as to cover all those, who work in tho industry. Tho Otago Chemical Manure Union is doing likewise, so let us hope before long that these two unions will amalgamate.

The secretary of tho New Zealand Freezing Works and Allied Trades Federation has sent tho following letter to all unions connected with the industry:

"Enclosed please find a copy of tho Wellington freezing works' recent agreement, and I am instructed to ask your union to make this a basis of any future demands that you might make, and under no circumstance to enter into a fresh agreement for less rates than are provided for in this agreement.

"As your union has not yet affiliated to this Federation, wo would ask you, after you have met your employers and failed to come to an agreement, to communicate with us and see if we can assist you in arriving at an agreement. We would urgo upon you the urgent necessity for your union to affiliate- to this organisation, as it is only by industrial combination that wo can -hope to secure anything like reasonable conditions of work.

"Tho Wellington Union is to be congratulated on its splendid agreement, and undoubtedly it has given us a splendid lead. We hope in the near hitiire that the whole of tho industry will bo connected with tho one Federation and that tho Federation will bo the body to deal with all these mailers.

''The next conference will take place in January, cither in Wellington or Christchurch, so we would urge upon you to become affiliated so that you can be represented at that conference. —F.E."
