AUCKLAND GENERAL LABORERS.
A 10 PER CENT. LEVY.
A largely-attended meeting of th<s Auckland General Laborers'"Union was hold on Friday night last to discuss the question of a'strike levy, in accordant-* with a communication received from th« executive of the Federation of Labor The whole position with regard to th< Waihi and other labor troubles wai thoroughly discussed, and it was unani mously decided to act in full aooovc with the expressed wish of tlie Ve<!cration's executive, and to strike a levy a 10 per cent, on the weekly earning el each member of the union. Tho feeling of tho meeting was ono of unquestioning loyalty to tho Federation of Labor, and that it was the plain duty of tho union to respond unhesitatingly to the call for financial assistance for the strike fund. A resolution was also unanimously carried to tho effect that, as far as Mr. Parry's actions were concerned in the Waihi trouble, the union heartily endorsed everything that had been done, and further, that members had every confidence in Mr. Pnary as an Industrial Unionist and an official of the Federation of Labor. It may be stated, in connection with' the levy which the General Laborers' Union decided to strike, that this is the first levy thnt lias ever been -called for since the union was established. Tt is estimated, from records that have-been kept over a considerable period, that the actual return from the levy will bo 10 per cent, of an average weekly income of 325. per week per member.
