Over his own protest, friends of Albert Reeves, who recently slew his infant son "to save him from tho nnwlstrom of modem industrial life," petitioned the Homo Office to commute tho prisoner's death sentence. Reeves made an extraordinary ploa when lie was taken before the court. Refusing tho services of counsel, lia calmly arose and said in a firm voice: "Your Lordship. 1 am guilty. I am /of perfectly sound mind, and'l 'knew what I was doing. I realise Ihf gravity J of tho charge, and am ready to satisfy > til 10 law's demands. It is iucmnlxmt upon you to sentence mo to death." Donning tho black cap, the judgo passed sentence as the prisoner requested. 11 o expressed hope, however, that the Home Office would inquire intj the man's sanity.. ~,
