AUCKLAND EMPLOYERS REFUSE TO RECOGNISE UNION.
A meeting which had been arranged Htw-eeii ,g" v oral I a hotel's, the City Council, and other employers' representatives of Auckland for the purpose of drafting a new agreement proved abortive, the employers insisting upon the matter being referred to the Arbitration Court, and tho Union being equally firm in its refusal to go into the Court. Later on, i-he Union officials waited out.sde tho City Council Chambers awaiting an opportunity of placing iliei'r side of tho case before the Council. A letter was sent into the Chamber announcing that Fnion representatives were awaiting the decision of tho Council. Tim letter was followed by Messrs. W. E. Parry, P. Eraser, F. Arns, and (). Mason, who naked leave to Jin', their case before the city's representatives. Immediately the Mayor, without any justification whatever, assumed a most autocratic attitude, and refused to listen to tho deputation. Sooner than cause any 1111----necessiiry unpleasantness, tho deputation withdrew. Later a meeting of the various unions of Auckland was held and tho matter was fully discussed. At the time of writing tho whole position is under consideration by the Fedoration Executive, and in all probability tho necessary stej* will be taken to drive reason into tho City Fathers' heads'.
