The National Peae« Council met in Christchurch on January X ie consider tbe present situation 'regarding the
threatened prosecutions under tho Defence Act. After discussing the niattor fully, the following resolution was carried: —"That the council most emphatically protest* against the action of tlie Government in tlireneiiiug prosecutions under the Defenco Act, with the intention, ol inumidaling hoys, notwithstanding the fact fhnt it was iearly stated by the Aeting-AHniistor >:; Defence, tm the lio«r of the .Hoiis<> ,/i'ior to the elections, that no further piosecutiiHis under tin* Delence Act would be. Tho council disi-ussm] the probaln'lity of any prosecutions bftiiig institut«<l, and decided that, in that event., they would at once take vigorous steps to organise and make effective the opjwsition to tho scheme throughout the Dominion.
