ONE THING AND ANOTHER.
TO WORKING WOSVIEN WHO USE SCENT. My beloved maids of the washtub — navvies' wives, wharf laborers' wives— including wives of the "low, dirty, vulgar working-class," I send you some useful information re scent.
are all ladies —that ks understood. The wife of a man is more entitled to bi> dubbed "lady" than the aaU£s- of a man avlio lives without AAxUing.
Well, to return to the scent. In the women's column of tho ''Evening Post" I read under the headline, "Scent and its uses" : " Every Avhere one goes one is met by an odour of scent, each user, having the perfume she likes best."
Of course, only tbe "real nice people" use the right kind of scent. I may add that to some of these people scent is quite necessary. Miners' wiA-es, listen: "Not only is the particular perfume associated with everything she has, from her lingerie, even from the rubber dress Avhich every woman seems to have adopted, even the pet dog she carries has to be sprinkled day by day to match its mistress." Pay attention, Avharfies' Avives: "As a rule, the scent, though so general, is not overpoAA'cring ■or unpleasant."
The "real nice people" could never be unpleasant, could they, ladies of the Avashtub? One has to be that careful lioav one uses scent that one is quite .puzzled sometimes wdiat one must do. Noav, ladies —Avives of the loav, dirty, common Avorking-class —listen to this: "It is stated that a number of ladies this season have been using perfumes specially distilled for them.'-"
At last the fatal cat is let out of the bagl There it is—"the multitude cannot obtain it." What a sublime lesson for the ladies of Noav Zealand. How enlightened you Avives of the working-class must be. So long, you "real nice people."—ODOUß.
