WOMAN'S CROWNING GLORY— THE HAIR.
Hair Tonic for Dryness of Hair. —An excellent emollient for hairdresshig is made as follows: —Glycerine and tincture of cantbarides, of each one ounce; oau-dc-oologno, half-pint; liquid ammonia, 1 drachm ; oil of origanum and oil of rosemary, half a drachm of each. Briskly shake together for ten minutes, then add half a pint of camphor-julep, and again Avell mix and stir. A Icav drops of essence of musk or other perfume may be added.
Premature grey hairs.—-Peroxide of hydrogen is not suitable to use in this connection, a.s it bleaches the roots of the hair, and does not therefore answer the purpose. If grey hairs have come to stay, there is no Avay in which they can be arrested. An effective hair lotion, Avhich has restored colour to the hair in some oa.ses>, is made of green tea and fresh garden sage, prepared as folloAvs: —Put tAvo ounces of each in an iron pot which can be closely covered, and pour over it three quarts of boiling AA'ator. Simmer until reduced, one-third, leave in the pan 24 hours, then strain and bottle. Use every night •and massage the scalp for ten minutes after each application. Cover the pilloav, or the lotion will'stain it.
It is a mistake to "French comb" the hair Avith the object of making it appear thicker and stronger. As a matter of fact, it tends to weaken the hair and to make it thin and brittle. Get this .stimulating lotion made up, and use it tAvice a Aveek, rubbing it well into the roots of the hair and massaging the scalp afterAvards:— Eau-de-cologne, 8 ounces; tincture of canthardies, 1 ounce; oil of lavender, I- drachm; and oil of rosemary, J drachm.
