(By "Our Reptile Contemporary. Socialism in New Zealand. Milwaukee, in America, is the first town, in the world to secure a wholly Socialist government. If one were asked to name the country which will first adopt Socialism a prophet would feel himself fairly safe in answering "New Zealand/ , . While the Labor. Party there is small at present, evidence exists to show that its growth promises to be exceedingly rapid. Now Zoalanders have always been an extremely democratic community —democratic in fact, and not in mere profession—so much so that organised Labor was, until very recently, deemed to. be unnecessary. Labor is now being organised throughout the Dominion. But the movement differs in an essential particular from its Australian prototype in that it gives every indication, of making pure Socialism its creed.. The chief factor in effecting this notable characteristic is the official journal of the unions', which is uuequivocably Socialistic in its teaching. "The Maoriland Worker," under the editorship of Mr. 11. S. Ross,..a, prominent Australian writer, and formerly editor of the Melbourne "Socialist" and "Barrier Truth," preaches Socialism first, last, and all the time, its views being expressed in. muscular and downright prose which first commands attention and then compels conviction. The paper is increasing in circulation avid poweir with every week, and if it docs not convert the New Zealand democracy to Socialism within a.n easily measurable space of time, present writer is much mistaken. —"Westralian Worker," Kalgoorlic, W.A. From New Zealand. From New Zealand comes the glad news that "Tho Maoriland Worker" has been made, a weekly. "The Maoriland Worker" is an. open advocate of Industrial Unionism in New Zealand, and is the official organ of the New" Zealand Federation of Labor. May "The Maoriland Worker" always ".hewtrue to the line, lettiug tho chips fall where they may? . The editor, R. S. Ross, is an old standard-bearer of th'e ONE BIG UNION OF THE WORKERS. The address of "Tho Maoribnd Worker" is Box 727, Wellington:, N.Z. —"Industrial Worker/ , Wash., U.S.A. .'.,-■*.
