A Fable.

Onoe upon a time there lived a Young Man, who had- been Well Brought lip. His Parents were Rightthinking People, and had taught their Son tho Blind Patriotism of Kipling and the Capitalist Press. He knew all about Britain's Glorious Victories, but had never heard of Financiers or Army Contractors. Well, any way, a War came and the Young Mail left his Steady Job as Boot Clicker, shouldered his rifle, and went out to Defend His Country. After a Long Struggle the Enemy Avere Ignobly Defeated, and the Young Man came' back to his Native Town, minus one arm. The Soldiers formed up in the Square, and the Mayor of the Town addressed them. He said they were Noble Men, and Their Country thanked them. Ho said they had saved Their Country. The Trying Time of the Glorious Campaign must have softened the Young Man's Brain, for he said to himself: "I can never be. a Boot Clicker again, because I have lost one arm, so 1 will go on. a Bit of the Land I have Saved and grow enough for my Simple Needs. He looked around and found some land that no one was using, and started to dig it. It was Hard Work for a man. with one arm, but he persevered until one day the-Owner of the Land, in riding through Jus Estate, discovered him. The Magistrate gave the Young Man Six Months for Trespass, Six Months for Destroying the Property by digging up the Grass, and Another Six Months for being without Visible Means of Support. Moral: Before you start Defen-ding your Country, see'that you have some of it to defend. , *
