Waihi and Other Strikes.
It's characteristic of tho times that while such a lot of fuss is being made over tlie impending strike at Waihi, in the mining industry, there should be nothing heard of other strikes that aro taking place in other industries. For instance, the butter monopolies have seen fit to strike for another Id per lb on butter quite recently, and I am told by a local tradesman that from the first of next month a strike in the bedding industry has been declared, which involves a 15 per cent, increase in the- price of bedding. Of course, there is a slight difference, for whereas in Waihi the employees demanded an increase in their profits on tho commodity they are selling.- their labor, it is tho employers in the other cases demanding an increase on their profits on tlie commodities they are selling, which happens to be butter and bedding. There is another difference, too, for the former stand a big chance of not getting their . demands granted, while in the latter case there is not tho remotest possible dotibt about their demands being silently and unprotestingly acceded to. This is tho best all Avorlds—for somo people—"Goldfields Advocate."
