MEET CAPITAL WITH CAPITAL.
Dear "Worker," —Might I without taking up too much of your space make a suggestion in brief. For years I have been trying to get this matter taken up and discussed seriously by democratic leaders—now I appeal to you. When Labour is sufficiently consolidated I want to see a large fund created by the combined Unions invested in legitimate undertakings, having land as a basis on Hon. Bolt's lines, a co-operative settlement on business lines with the object of calling off all efficient unemployed and making a corner in Labour. If you Avill give this proposal serious consideration you will find that its operation would be more effective than
anything Avhich lias hitherto been attempted. I cannot see how the overthrow of capitalism caii .be accomplished Avithout capital and capitalistic methods, or how AA'e can meet a man or men in combat with inferior weapons and little ammunition—leaving out bad generalship. We must meet capital vA r ith capital, nothing loss. It is possible, I think, fo- the combined Unions to put together a very large sum and have an executive body wield tht: poA-ver thus obtained for the benefit of tliose concerned—the Labour Party. An Arbitration Court Avould not then be necessary, as the Avhip Avould then be taken out of the employer's hand and the employee could boldly make his demands. r tnink time taken in persuading the Unions to adopt this mode ol attack would be Avell spent. —I am, c tc. j "HODGE."
