“THE GREATEST DRAMA EVER STAGED.”

DOROTHY SAYER’S LATEST A title such as the above with Miss Sayers as author and a price of sixpence (N.Z. 7d) appeals instantly to the detective story fan. It will come as a surprise to most readers to find the motive of the booklet (scarcely fifty pages) summed up on the second page in the sentence “The Christian faith is the most exciting drama that ever staggered the imagination of man.” The disappointed detective reader will probably examine the book out of sheer curiosity; the reader—and all devotees of Miss Sayers are intelli-gent-will be struck by this challenge to think clearly and without traditional prejudice about the claims of Christ. Some sentences taken at random will illustrate the ; author’s method: ! “ —for whatever reason God chose to make man as he is—limited and suffering and subject to sorows and death—He had the honesty and the courage to take j His own medicine.” | “The people who hanged Christ i never, to do them justice, ac- ■ cused him. of being a bore —on the contrary; they thought Him too dynamic to be safe. It has been left for later generations to muffle up that shattering personality and surround Him with an atmosphere of tedium. ’ ’ i‘ ‘ Christians are not the only people who fail to act up to their creed: for what detcrminist philosopher, when his breakfast bacon is uneatable, will not ' blame the freewill of the cook like any Christian?” , An unusual book for the average man to read —and think about. Our copy is from the publishers, Hodder and Stoughton but the book is obtainable at all booksellers.
