Christinas Postings. With regard to the posting of cards and gifts to Great Biitain the post office is anxious to correct a misapprehension, that appears to exist regarding forwarding of Christmas gifts and cards to Great Britain by post. It has been stated that Christmas -cards will be sent by sea unless letter rates are paid but this is true only if cards are posted in unsealed envelopes. Any article sealed against inspection is treated as a ! letter and surcharged accordingly. Special conditions apply to the posting of gifts such as ties and handkerchiefs which may only be sent to certain countries by parcel j post while in other cases the “small packet” post or letter post may be used. Such articles should be handed over the counter together with the necessary customs declaration. To avoid difficulty and unnecessary expense the public is strongly recommended to inquire at the Post Office before making postings of gifts to any country.

Films of Lawrence Featured in 1000 ft newsreel film gazette taken last yeardn Central Otago are scenes of Lawrence. With the co-operation and assistance of the Otago Expansion League and the Dunedin City Council, Mr R. Mclntyre, of the Government Publicity Department, photographed various scenes in Dunedin and throughout Central Otago last year for inclusion in a newsreel gazette of 1000 ft. In an interview on Monday Mr Mclntyre stated that one of the most attractive “shots” taken in the spring time was of the daffodils at Lawrence. He had 'also secured a number of other notable Otago and Southland views. This newsreel had just been completed, Mr Mclntyre said, and Dunedin citizens could expect its release in the near future. Referring to the film' which was to be made as part of the arrangements for the Centenary of the Dominion, he said that preparations were now in hand for the actual shooting. Otago would be represented in the film by scenes depicting the days of the gold rush —one of the most eventful periods in the history of the Dominion. It was hoped to make a start with the filming of these pictures early in the New Year.
