Stronach Morris, Dunedin, report for week ending Thursday, tlOth October;— Fat Cattle.—A heavier yarding of cattle was forward for yesterday’s sale, an entry of about 315 being penned. The quality was on the whole fair. With two of the leading butchers having bought their supplies outside, and the bigger number of cattle that was forward, the market showed a drop of fully £2 per head. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £27 12s 6d; prime heavy £2O 10s to £23 10s; prime medium £l7 to £l9; light and unhuished from £l2 10s; extra heavy cows and heifers to £l9 7s fid; prime heavy £l4 10s to £l6 10s; prime medium £ll to £l3 10s; light and inferior from £5 upwards.
Fat Sheep.—A yarding of 1800 sheep was forward. The quality generally was quite good, there being several consignments of extra heavy ewes and wethers. Medium, and light sheep were not in such plentiful supply. The market for all quality sheep was firm at late rates until the closing stage of the sale when over the last two races prices eased considerably. Extra heavy woolly wethers to 40s; prime heavy woolly 34s to 365; prime medium woolly 28s to 325; light and unfinished from 23s 6d; prime heavy shorn wethers 26s to 28s 6d; prime medium shorn 23s 6d to 25s 6d; extra heavy woolly ewes to 36s 6d;' prime heavy woolly 27s to 33s 6d; prime medium woolly ewes 21s 6d to 255; light woolly ewes from 16s.
Fat Pigs.—There was a small yarding, 118 being forward. • The entry .consisted mainly Of baconers which sold in advance of last sale’s rates. Porkers met with an easing demand at the start of the sale but later firmed to last sale’s prices. Store Pigs.—There were 120 store pigs forward anc} these showed an advance of 2s per head on last sale’s rates.
Spring Lambs.—There were 49 spring iambs penned and prices were slightly lower than those ruling at the last sale; a decline of Is 6d to 2s fid per head taking place for prime heavy weights while light and unfinished lambs were easier by 3s to 4s per head. Oats.—There are very few offering at present and the demand is quiet. There is still a fair enquiry for heavy lines of Gartens suitable for seed purposes and these are bringing up to 3s on trucks, country sidings. Wheat.—There is no milling wheat offering in this district and fowl wheat meets with a good inquiry at up to fis 3d ex store, Dunedin. Potatoes.—The market is lifeless and heavy stocks are still being held in store. Sales are difficult to make except for freshly picked lines of King Edwards which are bringing up to £4 and Arran Chiefs £2 10s ex, store, Dunedin. Chaff.—Sufficient is coming forward to meet the local inquiry and the demand is confined to prime bright oaten sheaf which is bringing up to £5 15s ex store, Dunedin.
Sheepskin^.—We held our usual fortnightly sheepskin sale on Tuesday when we offered a fair sized catalogue to a full attendance of buyers. There was keen competition and prices generally showed an advance on last sale’s dates. Good skins particularly showed a rise of fully Id per lb while shorter woolled skins were proportionately firmer. Halfbred full-wool to 9M: halfbred halfwool to Sd; halfbred quarter-wool to” 61d; crossbred full-wool to 9d; crossbred half-wool to B|d; crossbred quarter-wool to sfd; best pelts to 4Jd; medium pelts 2|d to fine crossbred full-wool to 9jd; fine crossbred half-wool to Srjrtl; fine crossbred quarter-wool to 6M; dead and damaged halfbred to B£d; dead and damaged crossbred to halfbred hoggets to 84d; crossbred hoggets to BM.
