Informal 31. Majority for Bodkin, 1329. Patriotic Gesture. The chairman (Cr. J. D. Revie) at the monthly meeting of the Tuapeka County Council expressed the council’s appreciation and gratitude for the work done by the Rt. Hon. Mr Neville Chamberlain in the interests of world peace. “The country has come through one of the most strenuous experiences in its history, and was on the verge of one of the biggest catastrophes that would have struck civilization. We have much to be thankful for that we have such able men in charge of the Empire.” It was decided to draw up a letter embodying these sentiments for forwarding to the Governor-General. Comforts for Lepers. Through the kindness of friends, wireless has now been made available for patients on the leper station at Makogai and the patients were able to listen to the broadcast appeal made by Mr P. J. Twomey on their behalf recently. An endeavour is being made to make provision for a distribution of delicacies to each pat ent several times during the year. The fund for this purpose has already reached the magnificent sum of £1,750, and for this Mr Twomey wishes to express his gratitude. The appeal is closing on the 15th. November.
