METHODIST ANNIVERSARY

The 75th anniversary of Roxburgh Methodism is to be celebrated next Sunday and the week following. On Sunday, October 23. the morning and evening services will be conducted by the Rev. L. B. Neale, 8.A., F.R.G.S., Chairman of the Otago-Southland district, and minister of the Dunedin Central Mission. Mr Neale’s morning subject is “Immortality,” and his evening theme, “How are you?” On Monday, 24th the picture film “The Perfect Gentleman” will be screened! at 8 p.m. in the Town Hall. On Wednesday, 26th will take place the principal weeknight function of the Anniversary celebration, an old-fashioned teameeting in the Roxburgh dance hall. Short speeches by representatives of the pioneers, ministers, and by representatives of the churches will afterwards be interspersed with musical items. On Saturday, 29th, there will be a concluding picnic, principally for Sunday school children, when the children will be entertained, lunch provided, and, where necessary, transported to the picnic ground by the Teviot saleyards. Tevict and Coal Creek children are expected to join. At 3 o ’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, 23rd, there will be an open-air service on the eastern bank of the Molyneux, near the junction with the Teviot stream, as near as possible to the historic spot where it is believed the first Christian service was held in Roxburgh.

Said an American police sergeant: “Did you give the prisoner third degree!” “Yes,” replied the constable, “We browbeat him, badgered him, and asked him every question we could think of.” “And what did he do?” “He dozed off, and merely said: “Yes, dear, you are perfectly right.” ■ ■ •••••
