CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR
I At the invitation of Kev. Mr j j Heggie and the members of his Bible class, the weekly C.B. meeting was held in the Methodist I I Church, Ettrick, on October 4. | j There were forty-five young | j people present, twenty-two being I C.E. members. Mr Bert Bloxham occupied the chair. After the singing of several choruses, and the opening hymn “Stand up, stand up for Jesus,” ■ a prayer was offered by Mr George Strachan. The Bible Reading (John 17) was taken by Miss l Mary Bennetts. j The evening’s subject: “John’s Portrait of Jesus —the Leader,” was ably dealt with by Miss Janet Lawrence. It was pointed out that those who would proclaim , themselves *as leaders of the Nations to-day, have nothing last- , ing to offer their followers in comarison with what Jesus offceis. Christ, the greatest leader in the world, has personal salvation, and love and eternal life to offer. We read in the study-book that: I “Some leaders have attempted to ] I attract followers by easy methods. >
(Jesus never hesitated to make big demands. Real men, do not want an easy religion. And Jesus never asked of men anything He was not prepared to give Himself, j The risen Christ is our Leader,— [ and it is the work of the Holy j Spirit, the Comforter, to make the ' presence of Christ real to His followers. ” The poem—‘ ‘Scandal ’ ’ —was recited by Miss Ivy Strachan; and after chain prayer, Misses M. and D. Wood rendered the duet: “Just as I am.” Further choruses were sung after which Rev. Mr Heggie pronounced ! the Benediction. “ I do not ask imy cross to underi stand my way to see. Better in darkness just to feel Thy 1 Hand, and follow Thee.”
