ROXBURGH TROTTING CLUB
The annual meeting of the Roxburgh Trotting Club was held in the library room of the Town Hall on Monday evening, 3rd October. The president, Mr E. E. Vercoe presided over a fair attendance. The president drew attention to the very severe loss which the Club had sustained during the past year in the death of the vicepresident, Mr Ik Brady. He had been a very valuable member always willing to do his part and his place would be very hard to fill. As a mark of respect the meeting stood in silence. The past season had been very good and the track was in good order considering the very bad state it had been after the meeting. In this connection he would like to thank Messrs Harliwich and Parker for the loan of their trucks when the working bees had been held. Regarding the question which was uppermost in every member’s mind, that of getting a permit for a totalisator, he stated that he had been in touch with members 'of the New Zealand Trotting Association. He had been advised that the Club should get every consideration but that the real difficulty was the fact that other clubs were getting extra permits. In conclusion he would thank the members of the committee for their help during the season.
The following new members .were proposed:—Messrs J. Richmond and T. Gilder. An apology for absence was received from Mr H. Tamblyn. The balance sheet showing a slight profit on the year’s workings was read and confirmed. Election of Office Bearers In vacating the chair, Mr Vercoe spoke in complimentary terms of the splendid work which had been rendered to the club by the secretary, Mr A. Burton, he had always discharged his duties in an able and capable manner. President: Mr P. E. Vercoe, reelected. Vice-president; Mr D. Kelly. Hon. Auditor: Mr Jas. McVey, re-elected. The secretary was instructed to write a letter to Mr McVey thanking him for his generous services to the Club. Secretary.—-Mr Burton signified
that he did not wish to stand for (secretary* (again as he hadj jfloo much work on his hands and did not feel that he could give the time -again for another year, lie would however, carry on for a further term of three months until the l Club -could find another secretary. The president thanked Mr Burton ! for his kind offer, speaking of Mr ■ Burton’s services to the club since 1 its inception. Executive Committee.—Messrs |V. Parker, A. Burton, C. Blakely, jB. A further committee was formed to go into ways and means of raising funds:—Messrs C. Scott, J. Pearson, A. Holmes, C. Blakely and G. Boyce. It was decided that members’s fees should be the same as last year, namely 10/-. A discussion then followed as to the most suitable day to hold the race meeting and it was decided that the secretary write to the Association asking that the day be April 22nd instead of December 10th as already applied for. A hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
