Stronach Morris, Dunedin, report for week ending Thursday, 29th September:— Fat Cattle: There was a medium entry of fat eattle yesterday, 284 being forward. Competition was keen and prices generally were on a par with last sale’s rates. Cows and heifers were, if anything, slightly easier. Extra prime bullocks £23 17s (id to £26. Prime £l7 7s 6d to £2l 17s fid; medium £l3 2s 6d to £l6 7s 6d; light and unfinished £8 17s fid to £l2 2s fid; extra prime cows and heifers to £l6 17s fid; prime £l3 7s fid to £l4 7s fid; medium £9 5s to £l2 12s 6d; light and unfinished £5 7s fid to £7 17s fid.
Fat Sheep.—There was a medium entry of fat sheep, 900 being penned. At the commencement of the sale there was keen competition and prices for heavy and medium weight sheep were firmer by Is fid to 2s per head. Towards the end, however, prices declined to a par with last week’s rates. Light weight ewes and wethers were from a par to a shade firmer. Extra prime heavy wethers to 39s 9d, prime 28s 9d to 325, medium 24s fid to 27s 9d, light and unfinished 18s fid to 22s 9d; extra prime heavy ewes to 28s, prime 21s to 23s fid, medium Ifis fid to 19s 3d, light and unfinished 12s to 14s 9d.
Fat Pigs.—There was a yarding of 120 fat pigs forward for yesterday’s sale. Baconers sold firm, at last week’s rates while porkers showed an easing tendency. Store Pigs.—These were in excess of requirements and consequently prices were easier. Oats.—The market still remains quiet though there has been a fair enquiry for heavy lines of Gartons suitable for seed purposes and these are bringing up to 3s on trucks, country sidings. Wheat.—There is no milling wheat offering and fowl wheat met with a good inquiry at up to 6s 3d ex store, Dunedin. Potatoes.—The market is lifeless. Heavy stocks are still being held in store and consignments have been coming to hand freely from the country. Sales are difficult to make except for freshly picked lines of King Edwards which are bringing up to £4. Arran Chiefs are bringing up to £3 10s. Chaff.—Sufficient is coming to hand to meet the local enquiry and the market is quiet. Prime bright oaten sheaf is bringing up to £6 ex store, Dunedin. Inferior quality is difficult to quit.
Rabbitskin Sale. This was postponed owing to the very unsettled conditions in Europe.
