HOCKEY NOTES

The match between Central Otago and South Otago Ladies hockey teams was played at Millers Flat on Saturday last before a moderate attendance and rnider ideal weather conditions. The i game which was played in splendid spirit was somewhat disappointing from spectators point of view. As the result indicates the game would appear to have been somewhat one-sided; however on several occasions the backs and goalie for Central were called upon to strenuously defend their goal. But fortunately for South Otago they lacked combination and finish to their play. On the other hand Central played with better understanding and the thrust of their forwards was very effective. For Central Otago the scoring was as follows. Miss H. Keddell 2, G. Alexander 3, M. Hughan 2, L. Stockdiil 1, M. Hiscock 1. The final scores were Central Otago 9, South Otago 1. At the Bridge Hotel the teams were guests at a dinner. Mr A. McKellar (Alexandra) presiding. Mr Floyd spoke on behalf of South Otago, and Mr Hewitt (Alexandra) spoke in reminiscent, vein of the early days of hockey in Centra Otago. Following the dinner a dance was held in the Millers Fiat hall.
