LAWRENCE MAGISTRATES COURT
(Before Mr H. W. Bundle S.M.). The monthly sitting of the Lawrence Magistrate’s Court was held on Friday, when the following police cases were dealt with: Robert Campbell was charged that on 13th July, 1938, at Lawrence he drove a motor car without being the holder of a motordriver’s licence on the Clarksville —Alexandra main highway. He was fined 5s and costs 10s. William F. Labes was charged that on 13th July while driving a motor vehicle on the ClarksvilleAlexandra main highway he failed to keep to the left of the highway. The magistrate stated that Campbell and Labes collided on the spot known as the Devil’s Elbow on a snowy morning. As there 'might be a civil action he did not wish to prejudice Labes’ case and dismissed the charge subject to the payment of Court costs 10s.
Lorua Gertrude McCormark, Dunedin, was charged that on 7th July at Raes Junction, being the driver of a motor oar she had (failed to keep as close as was practicable to the left of the roadway.—Convicted and fined £2, with Court costs, 10s. Court costs, 10s. Mining Applications The application of Charles David Taylor for a prospecting licence over 50 acres of Crown land, Block I, Waitahuna West S.D. was granted, security being fixed at £7 10s.
The Sailor’s Gully Goldmining Co. Ltd., applied for a licence for a special alluvial claim over 15 acres of Crown land, Block VII, Table Hill S.D.—Granted.
