Proposed Traffic Bridge

TUAPEKA MOUTH SCHEME In view of the recent revival of the agitation for a traffic bridge to replace the obsolete punt at Tuapeka Mouth the following information, supplied by Cr Thompson, is informative: —

The Tuapeka Mouth bridge site is distant seven miles from the nearly completed traffic bridge at Clydevale. The following is the result of 12 months’ traffic tally j taken at the Clydevale punt from ’ the 6th July, 1934, to 6th July, 1935: —Motor vehicles, 13,407; horse-drawn vehicles, 893; cattle, 133; sheep, 17,172; foot passengers, 2,830; of which 50 per cent was outside traffic, 27 per cent Cllltha County traffic, 20 per cent Bruce County traffic and 3 per cent Tuapeka County traffic. The new Clydevale bridge is 700 feet long (seven span each 100 feet) and the approximate cost is, bridge £16,500, approaches £SOOO —a total of £21,500. Of this amount the Clutha County provided £4OOO and the Bruce County £3OOO.
