Stock and produce REPORT Stronach, Morris and Co. Ltd., report for week ending Thursday. 15th September:— Pat Cattle.—There was a medium entry of fat cattle penned for yesterday’s sale, 233 being forward, and the market generally showed an appreciation on the previous sale’s rates. Prime heavy cattle were firmer by 30s per head medium by £1 and light and unfinished by 10s while cows and heifers were better from 15s to £l. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £25 2s 6d, prime heavy £l9 7s 6d to £2l 2s 6d; medium £ls 2s 6d to £l9 2s 6d; light and unfinished £7 17s Gd to £l4 17s 6d; extra prime heavy cows and heifers to £ls 17s 6d; prime £l3 7s 6d to £l4 2s 6d; medium £9 2s 6d to £l3 2s 6d; light and unfinished £5 17s 6d to £8 17 6d. Fat Sheep.—There was a large yarding of sheep penned for yesterday’s sale, 2107 being forward. These were in excess of butchers’ requirements although the quality of both ewes and -wethers was good. Prime quality sheep declined to the extent of about 3s per head and medium sorts, especially wethers, were hard to quit even at the reduced rates. Light and finished sheep, however, sold on a par with last week’s rates. Extra prime heavy wethers to 34s 9d; prime heavy 29s to 31s 9d. prime 26s 6d to 28s 9d; medium 23s 3d to 26s 3d; light 17s to 235; extra prime heavy ewes to 27s 6d; prime 19s 6d to 22s 9d; medium 16s to 19s 3d; light and unfinished 10s 6d to 15s 9d. Fat Pigs.—There was a medium entry of fat pigs and baconers met with very keen competition, selling well up to last sale’s rates, while porkers were on a par to a shade easier. Rabbi tskins.—We held our usual fortnightly rabbitskin sale last Tuesday when we offered i medium sized catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. There was good competition and prices generally showed a rise of 3d to 4d per lb and in some cases more, on last sale’s rates. First winter bucks 77fd; second winter bucks 73d; spotty winter bucks 63^d; first outgoing bucks 47d; first spring bucks 47d; small 3|d; racks 15d; spring does 24|d; milky does 14|d; first hareskins ISd; medium ferret skins 2s to 2s 6d; first winter does 45d; second' winter does 43d; spotty winter doe 36|d; first outgoing does winter bloodstained runners 9|d; spring bucks 22|d; winter black 30d; winter fawn 56d; best ferret skins to 3s 4d; inferior ferret skins from 6d upwards.
Wheat.—There is no milling wheat offering and fowl wheat is in keen demand at up to 6s 3d ex store, Dunedin. Oats.—The market is quiet at present and there is a good inquiry for heavy lines of Cartons, suitable for seed purposes and these are bringing up to 3s on trucks, country sidings. Potatoes.—The market is very quiet at present and the only demand is for freshly _ picked lines of King Edwards which are bringing up to £5 ex store, Dunedin. Arran Chiefs are dull of sale and are bringing up to £3 10s for freshly picked sorts. Chaff. —There is a good inquiry for prime bright oaten sheaf and this is bringing up to £6 ex store, Dunedin.
