Gun Duels Across Straits of Dover

Received Monday, 9.50 pun. LONDON, March 20. Artillery guns on the south coast of England after midnight last night opened lire on enemy shipping near Calais. The British guns went into action for 20 minutes before the enemy returned the fire from the long-ragge batteries on Capo Gris Nez and Calais. The cannonade continued for an hour in which both sides fired about 80 shells. The weather in the Straits was fine and clear. Brilliant gun flashes lit up the sky and the gunfire and explosion of shells shook towns on the southeast coast area.
