Dead Japanese Crews Cry “ Planes, Planes! ”

FRANK ADMISSION OF CRITICAL MUNITIONS SHORTAGE. Received Monday 11.60 p.m. NEW YORK, March 20. “Japanese submarines have been too busy supplying frontline bases to sink enemy warships,” declared the Tokio official radio. “If we had more planes, ammimition transportation by surface ships could be accomplished under the protection of aircraft. Then our submarines could carry out their real function of attacking and sinking enemy ships.” The radio quoted a Japanese submarine commander as saying: “Our crews are shouting: ‘Planes, Planes,’ from the bottom of the sea and our soldiers on the decisive battlefronts who are chewing grass and eating lizards glare at the cans of goods sent them and remark: ‘Why didn’t they bring ps ammunition instead!’ ”
