Surprise Attack on Sourabaya
Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. SYDNEY, March 19. The ground defences at Sourabaya, the Japanese naval base in Java, were caught napping by MacArthur’s long range Liberator bombers on Wednesday night. A blaze of lights guided the raiders to their targets. Only as the raiders came close was the city plunged into darkness. Antiaircraft fire was slight. This spectacular 2400-mile round flight was the first Allied attack on Sourabaya for several months. The raiders were over the base for 90 minutes attacking naval yards and aerodrome installations. Heavy clouds prevented full observation of the damage. ’PHONE CALL AFFECTED He had arrived! Was on tho phone! But she could only whisper until someono handed her Pulmonas.
