Patriotic Shop

The first three days of last week were taken by the Manawatu County Club (convener, Mrs. F. Coombs). Excellent business resulted in £GI 11s Id being! added to the funds. Mrs. Coombs desires to thank all who supported this effort. Cash donations from club members amounted to £8 Ss. The Minesweepers' Comfort Circle had the latter part of the week (conveners, Mesdames S. Evans and A. A. Langley). A feature of this effort was the supply of cakes, preserves and flowers. Receipts were £43 13s Id. making the total for the week £lO5 4s 2d. The conveners extend thanks to the staff, to the donors of goods for sale and the public for support. This week the Intermediate Home and School Association has the first three days and is followed by the Lutheran Ladies’ Guild. Mrs. R. MqMurray is visitor for the shop committee. The Manawatu Repertory Society’s rooms were packed on Thursday night for the soceity’s first gathering of the year, the production of three one-act plays. The setting of all the plays was medieval, and included a tragedy, "Boccacio's Untold Tale’’ (Kemp), a comedy, “Gossip’s Glory” (T. : . orris;, and the trial scene from Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice.” “Boceacio’s Untold Tale” was produced by Mr. J. Kitchen, and the players were Mrs. M. Ash well, Misses L. Cameron and J. Judd, Messrs. D. Hope and R. Burns. Mrs. .1. Davidson produced “Gossip's Glory.” ana the cast Included Mesdames Wilson and Davidson, Misses C. Verry and E. Bennett, and Mr. K. Nicholson. Tne trim scene, produced by Miss K. Birnie, was much appreciated by the audience, and the players were Mrs. T. D. Hamilton Brown, Miss V. E. Taylor, and "ossrs T. M. Rodgers, E. Bates, R. Haddon, W. Pringle and I. Morton. Vac ..-ting throughout was of a high standand, tin part of Shylock, played by Mr. E. Bates, being particularly well done. A welcome to many visitors was extended
