Feilding Live Stock Sale
BEEF AND MUTTON VALUES DEARER, Beef and mutton values were dearer at the Feilding live stock salo yesterday when entries in these sections were short. This arises from the operation of meat rationing and such a position will continue until such time as ■ butchers are in a position to gauge requirements. The limited entries caused prices to be forced up under competition. Ono pen of ox made equal to £2 per lOOlbs. which is the best price that has prevailed locally for a few months. Ex dairy cows sold well at higher values. Both ewes and wethers commended higher rates. In the store sheep sections rape lambs experienced a good salo with little change in values. The breeding ewe market could also be described as firm and yesterday witnessed the first offering of ewes running with the ram. Fat Sheep Offerings in the fat sheep pens reflected the meat rationing position, the whole yarding being under 100 head. Prices moved up under competition and the best of the ewes sold at 2s a head above November values while wethers were a few pence above early December quotations. The sales were:— Ewes: 9 at ISs 4d; 2 at 15s 4d. Wethers: 10 at 25s 4d; 9 at 22s 10d; 2 at 24s lOd; 15 at 2Gs lOd; 3 at 25s 4d. 2-ths: 23s 10s to 24s 10d. Lambs: 23s 7d to 27s Id. Several pens of ewes and lambs were passed in. Store Lambs There was little movement in the store lamb market which was quite active with a good enquiry. In the case of whiteface wether lambs prices were inclined to ease just a shade but blackfaces held to late rates. The realisations were:—Whiteface wether lambs: 159 at 13s 6d; 139 at 11s Id; 71 at 13s; IGO at IGs; 109 at 15s 7d; 174 at 9s 9d; 14G at 15s; 142 at 12s Gd; 112 at 14s 9d; 74 at 15s Id; 351 a/c. B. Fat Cattle Ox beef realised just on £2 per lOOlbs. when a pen of young wellfinished steers on account Brown Bros, changed hands for £l4 7s Gd, a price which was commensurate -with the quality offering but well above current schedule quotations. Actually beef was in short supply and ex-dairy sorts sold well at higher prices where the condition was present. Station Cattle The market for station cattle "was hardly up to expectations. This was the first substantial offering this year and it was considered that with pastures coming away under the influence of generous rains there would have been a good enquiry. Buyers, however, held off mainly for the reason that much of the offering comprised dealers’ lots while the quality was somewhat mixed. The recorded sales included the follow'ing:—l4 A.A. bullocks at £lO 17s Gd; 30 Hereford bullocks at £lO 15s; 15 A.A. steers at £9 ss; 20 A.A. bullocks at £ll 2s Gd.
