Manpowered Girls Overworked in Hotel
(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 16. Tho Principal of the Dunedin Training College reported on complaints from students concerning conditions of employment when manpowered during their vacation. It was stated that many promises relating to conditions had not been kept and that satisfactory conditions were obtained only under pressure. One caso cited was of four girl students who were sent to a country hotel ostensibly as waitresses, housemaids and second cooks, to work a 44hour week with li days off. They worked 10 to 15 hours daily and wero asked to sign the wages book stating that eight hours had been workod and paid for. The hotel’s whole staff was six and the average guests 40. The report was referred to tho Manpower Director for investigation.
