New Diplomatic Offensive Against Eire

OPSSIELE ECONOMIC PRESSURE BY AMERICA Received Friday, 12.30 a.m. NEW YORK, March 16. The United States Government in consultation with Britain is preparing a new diplomatic offensive for getting rid of Axis agents from Eire before the invasion of Europe begins, reports the Herald-Tribune’s Washington correspondent. The preliminary surveys of possible economic pressure have already been made and United States officials are documenting a vigorous reply to Mr. de Valera’s rejection. In it they will furnish evidence that Mr. de Valera does not know the extent to which Germany and Japan have used Eire’s professed neutrality as a beachhead planted virtually in the heart of tho greatest military operation of all time. The United States in its Note of February 21 refrained for security reasons from telling all that it knows about Axis activities in Eire and what has been transmitted to Berlin and Tokio. Some material obtained by the German Minister at Dublin has been of great potential value to the German High Command.
