Water Imported
It had been estimated by a st&tijrtician that before the war Britain imported 3,000,000 tons of water annually, said Mr. W. Bankes Amerv, leader of the United Kingdom food mission to Australia and New Zealand. This had come into the country in imports of such foodstuffs as bananas and other fruit, wliich contained a high percentage of water. Iu order to conserve shipping space some of these imports had been stopped, and to-day children up to six years of age would not know what a banana was nor what to do with it if they were given one. Airmen Beach Land in Dinghy An illustration of the efficiency of the safety devices installed in aircraft flown by members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force was given on 'Tuesday night when three airmen reached safety after a forced landing in the sea near a North Island air station. When the machine, engaged on night flying exercises, was reported overdue, an aerial search was immediately instituted, and before long the occupants of the missing aircraft were seen making their way toward the shore in the collapsible dinghy which is part of the regular equipment carried. Within a short time the men had paddled ashore . none the worse for their adventure. The men concerned were: Flight Sergeant J. H. Pope, Wellington; Sergeant E. J. i Newton, Ohinewai; and Sergeant W.
