Y.W.C.A. Campaign Fund Now £1723 17/6

There was great activity at the Y.<M.Y.W.C.A. club rooms last evening when team leaders and their colleagues gathered to present the linal figures in their ! effort to reach the £2OOO goal for club und hostel extension. A buffet tea arranged by members of the Y.W.C.A. Board was enjoyed, after which *Mrs. C. A. Small, president, read a telegram of good wishes from Miss Elsie Bonnet (Auckland secretary who launched the campaign) and her board members. Mrs. Small said frankly at the outset she had wished someone would just leave them £2OOO and save all further bother. This was the wrong attitude, she admitted, for so much had happened, the experience had been enriching for them all in the new friends made and in the spirit in which the collectors had been received. For herself, in her country rounds there ! had not been on person who had not : given his blessing and a cheque, she said (applause). Mrs. Small returned thanks io all the collectors and to everyone who had responded. The Mayor, Air. A. E. | .Mansford, as chairman of the campaign, then called on the leaders to present j their reports which were received with applause, the grand total being £1723 17s lid—with promises of much more—raised in less than a fortnight. Mr. Mansford expressed appreciation of the opportunity of citizens getting together and seeing something of the work of the Y.W.C.A. He congratulated the collectors and said lve felt they would easily obtain their objective, but he warned them the last few hundreds were always the hardest to get. This should be a challenge for them, he said, and when they reached the goal they would have the satisfaction of knowing they had done something for their fellow citizens. It was only in appreciating what was given to us and what we ourselves put into the common pool that there would come the wider conception of the brotherhood of man. Miss M. Green well, general secretary, said the Association owed a debt of gratitude to the Mayor for his inspiration and enthusiasm. She intimated that the final function in the campaign would take 1 place at the end of the month. The gathering terminated with the Girl Citizens’ Benediction pronounced by Miss Greenwell.
