Miss C. Warburton presided over the March meeting of the district ■ committee of tiie Women’s War Service I Auxiliary. Sympathetic consideration j was given to a request from the secretary of the Palmerston North Beturned J Services' Association for the usual assistance on “Poppy Day,” also to a request for cooperation in providing partners for a dance at a military camp. Mrs. J, H. Whyte reported that. 21S members had been on canteen duty during the month and at short notice I between 40 and 50 members had served refreshments at the railway station to furlough men arriving by three trains. In this connection Mrs. Whyte voiced appreciation of the cooperation of Mrs. S. J. Northey, the manager and staff of the refreshment rooms and the B.T. Officer, Captain Pierard. She rea l a letter of thanks from Mr. J. B. Hardie, honorary secretary of Zone D committee for this service, also from a camp commandant, and Y.M.C.A. and Church Army officers for continued good service at canteens. The chairman offered congratulations to Mrs. Whyte and her loaders for their good work. The following appointments were approved:—No. I Platoon, Mesdames Boss (leader) and W. Cook; No. II Platoon, Mrs. L. Smith (leader) and Miss Erickson; No. HI Section, Misses L. Crosbie and Puklowski. Mrs. A. A. LanglCy reported on the work of high school boys cutting lawns for soldiers’ w r ives and Mrs. O. King for the papier mache group reported that between 70 and 80 articles of medical supplies had been made in the few months since commencing this work. Appreciation was expressed of the transport group under Mrs. B. Melville collecting waste paper, also Mrs. J. Fisher's gardening group. Arrangements for the tea party for members of the Women’s Land Service were finalised, also for the members’ evening. Mesdames T. •Laggard and Langley were appointed to the emergency committee.
