te ARAKURA Mrs. H. M. Whisker presided over the annual meeting. Mrs. W. McClelland, representing the Manawatu Federation of Women’s Institutes was present and conducted the election of president and ' committee for the ensuing year. Mrs. J Whisker (retiring president) gave a short report of the year’s activities and £ thanked her committee and members j lor their loyal support. Miss O. Thomas . (treasurer) presented the financial ’’ statement which showed a decrease of balance and drew attention to the fact i that the regular contribution to the Red ] Cross had been sustained the total j contributed to date being £44. Mrs. ] \V. E. Thomas proposed a vote ot ; thanks to the president, secretary ana committee for their untiring work in the interests of the institute undci difficult conditions. There were t\A T o 4 nominations for president, Miss M. { Hansen being elected. Nominations ( for committee did not exceed the nuin- v ber required. The members of the , new committee are Miss M. L. llansen (president), Mesdames G. Firth, W. L. ( Thomas, J. Marsden, 1). T. Johnston, ( J. W. R. Stewart, G. Jepscu and Miss , O. L. Thomas. Competitions results \ were: Asters, Miss G. Jepsen; tomato sauce, Mrs. T. M. Bradley J, Mrs. D. LeAvcr 2, Mrs. L. Whisker J; pickles, Mrs. I’. We veil 1, Mrs. D. LcAver 2. Post - office savings bank accounts were presented to two institute babies, Noelenc ] Rae We veil and {Suzanne Mary Char- < lotte GalloAvay. Several overseas letters were read* and acknowledgments ot i Christmas parcels Avere received from Captain L. R. McEwen and l J te. L. t Puulowski. At the February meeting Mrs. Thomas gave a talk on austerity ‘ cooking which will be continued at a further meeting. The competition foi j plum jam resulted: Mrs. M. Situ 1, Miss ; M. E. Hansen 2. WHAKARONGO Mrs. Philip presided over 33 members and one visitor at the annual meeting. Mrs. Jackson, of the executive committee was welcomed. The circular from the Y.W.C.A. Avas read and Mrs. Oxenham moved that if the federation executive supports the proposal the institute will also help. The annual report was commented on and the balance sheet Avas presented by the treasurer, and showed a very satisfactory balance in hand. The president presented the Fafeita Boayl to Mrs. C. Puklowski and congratulated her on her fine work at the recent institute liower show. Mrs. Oxeiiham congratulated the committee on their efforts during the year and said each year one became a little more warweary and things became hard, but avo must still carry on and try to do more than ever before. Mrs. Jackson then conducted the election, expressing her pleasure in being present. Mrs. Eagle was elected presiuent, anil tho committee was elected as follows: Mrs. Clark (secretary), Mrs. Newcombe (treasurer), Mesdames Satherley, Atkinson, Johauson, E. L. Smith, WilKinson, Henncksen, and Pedersen. Mrs. Johanson was re-elected convenor of the gardon circle and Mrs. Morris convenor of the drama circle, Avith Mrs. Puklovvski convenor of arts and crafts. On the motion of Mrs. Oxeniiam tho secretary ana treasurer Avere appointed the new trustees. An impromptu debate, oneep jrarmer v. Dairy warmer, causeu rnuen amusement. Mrs. M. Johanson won the lucicy cup and tho competition for three best asters resulted: Mrs. E. Smith. 4, Mrs. i’hilip 2, Mesdames, Cresswell and Wilkinson 3. Hostesses Avere Mesdames Dawson, Johanson and Marshall. RANGIWAHIA Tho annual meeting Avas a very popular one. A large number of members und friends attended and much enthusiasm Avas shown. Mrs. J. Thompson presided and Mrs. D. Couper Avas acting secretary. Correspondence from headquarters was dealt Avith. Tho soldier parcels were drawn for and l’tes. W. W. {Smith, J. Blackler and B. McConkie will be the recipients. Mesdames Smith, Jones and Guthrie Avill puck next month’s parcels. Mrs. Thompson voiced the institute’s regret at losing their member, Mrs. Jewell, and asked her to accept the institute badge on a spoon and a lovely scarlet spray with wishes for much joy in her new home. Mrs. Jewell thanked the members and said it had been a joy to attend the meetings. A beautifully knitted child’s cardigan Avas given by Mrs. Syd. Hancox lor W.J. funds, Mrs. 8. Hodge being the lucky winner. Mrs. Hancox was heartily thanked for her gift. The secretary read the annual report. This was a particularly good one und showed activities of the institute had been many und varied. Patriotic Avork and efforts had been foremost. The membership had increased considerably and there was a good tone among the members. Several ladies congratulated the secretary on the wonderful report presented. The balance-sheet shoAved that quite a lot of finance had been dealt Avith and there was a good credit balance to begin tho neAv year with. The president then asked Mrs. Smith, a member of the Oroua Federation executive, to take the chair. Mrs. Smith offered her congratulations to the institute on such a good year’s work and exhorted members to give their loyal support to their president and committee. As Mrs. Thompson was the only nomination for president she was ro-clectcd .amid cheers. The number for committee did not exceed the number required so a ballot was unnecessary. Those elected were Misses McKenzie, Goodall, Morgan and Wood and Mesdames Fankhausor, £mith, Cooper, Jones, Fraser, Billinghurst, Tompkins, Rodgers, Ellen and McCaslsie. A number of beautiful floral tributes made by Mrs. McMillan and .Miss McKenzie were presented. Mesdames Boshier, D. Martin and McKenzie received birthday bouquets and musical honours. Tho president and secretary were given posies in recognition of their work and the president handed Mrs. Guthrie a beautiful floral tribute with the institute’s love and good AAishes for her work in the coming rear. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Jean McMillan for her work as secretary and treasurer during tho year. Miss McMillan having left the district some months ago. The last ten minutes of the meeting Avas/Used in entertainment, ono of the members demonstrating how Miss Ruth Draper entertained her audiences Avith the minimum amount of stage properties. Competitions were Avon as follows: Bowl of asters, "Mrs. J. Fraser; jellied sweets, Mrs. J. Thompson; flower, Mrs. Rodgers; junior girls, bowl, Valeric Jones.
