Dance and Welcome in Ballance Hall
There wag a very large attendance at the Ballance Hall on Friday night, the occasion being a special welcome home to Gnr. Syd Tait. Music was supplied by Mrs. A. Tait and Air. 1. Merrie, while extras were contributed by Airs. May, Aliss C. Hills and Air. Q. Holdaway. A series of presentations was made to the guest of honour, the first by Aliss Doreen King, on behalf of tho Ballance school children, and tho next by Air. C. H. Brown, representing tho Farewell and Welcome committee of the Pahiatua Patriotic Society. On making tho final presentation, on behalf of the local residents, Air. 0. H. Wilton expressed regret that Air. J. B. Tait, “grand old man” of Ballance, was not able to be present owing to failing health, and referred to his line family record of five soldier sons, two having fought in the last war (one making tho supreme sacrifice), two others wore overseas to-day, and the guest of the evening had been invalided home after three years of service. Supper was handed round after which dancing was continued until a late hour.
