Notes of the Pay
A power shovel and a bulldozer are being used on the task of cleaning out the Makowhai drain in the OhakeaCarnarvon area of the Manawatu county. The progress is slower than anticipated owing to the width of the drain and the high banks. Contractors engaged on the repair of sections of Awahuri Road expect to complete the final sealing this week. Good progress was made yesterday in applying the final dressing of bitumen and coarse chips on the section at Bourke’s corner. To enable this to be done, through traffic had to mako a detour. At the quarterly meeting of the Manawatu Licensing Committee held at Feilding yesterday a further adjournment of the renewal of the license in the case of the Longburn Junction Hotel was granted. This procedure has been rendered necessary owing to lack of materials for rebuilding the premises which were destroyed by fire last year.
