Temperance Success in Auckland Licensing Poll

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 14. Although they were defeated in the Auckland City district the accredited temperance candidates achieved marked success iu several areas at the hotel licensing committee elections to-day. They gained control of the Remuera and Whangarei committees and in other districts l'or which returns have been received their candidates were successful. The poll was on the parliamentary franchise, but in all the districts only a small proportion of the electors exercised their vote. In several districts including the city where interest had been aroused by the announcement of tickets the voting was somewhat heavier thau in J 936 and 1939.
